Penfolds Grange – one for all and all for one

Penfolds Grange Bin 95 is one of the great iconic wines in the world. Unquestionably Grange is THE Flagship wine of Penfolds, that gives more added value and recognizability to winehouse and uptrust to other Penfolds wines! On the other hand those other Penfolds wines strenghten the background and prestige of Grange. It is like Alexandre Dumas Three Musketeers - one for all and all for one.

Grange story
There has been production of grapes and wines in Australia ever since first immigrants brought vines when coming ashore in 1788. Scottish James Busby, one of the beginners of Australian wine production, brought some rootstocks from France to Australia 1831. Among those stocks there were also Syrah, which has settled as one of the most significant grape varieties of Australia.
Starting point to Grange’s conquer was the first rootstocks, that doctor Christopher Rawson Penfold and his wife Mary planted in their Magill estate ”Grange Cottage” near Adelaide, and the year was 1844! In 1951 Max Schubert, Penfolds first Chief Winemaker, started first production experiments with Shiraz grape and small oak barrels. Grange Hermitage was submitted to wine competition in 1962 and it won gold metal with the vintage 1955. Rest is well-known history.

Below two earlier wine events in Finland with Grange as a leading role and star!

Grange on stage in Kuopio
Kuopio, located in the Central of Finland, has been a place for the biggest wine festivals in Finland over 25 years. Australia was festival’s leading country in 2017, and naturally Grange was the wine star of the festival. One of the memorable details was connected with Grange. Musta Lammas, local gourmet restaurant, acquired all Grange vintages 2017 that were available all over Finland. In order to unite that fabulous wine with restaurant’s Australian style gourmet dish, to allow those Grange wines opportunity to finish their journey as a true wine ambassador of Australia!

In Musta Lammas Australian food and wine heritage was celebrated with delicacy and quality, with Penfolds Grange and roasted young lamb avec kangaroo steak on raspberry sauce and bacon-potato terrine! In which blackberry aromas of Grange lead to taste bridge between main dish and Grange!
