Feminine wines – veni, vidi, vici

Every wine and winemaker has a story, a narrative, and best of them actually need to be told and shared. During the decades wineman has met over 320 winemakers in differnt countries visiting their wineries and tasted a lot of their wines. Knowing that taste is personal opinion, one must still conclude that female winemakers have their own approach and touch concerning winemaking and wines. Wineman is very grateful when having had opportunities to enjoy wines from Satu Lappalainen, Mª Elena Jiménez, Marta Casas and Nea Berglund. Understanding also that behind their wines there are endless learning, many experiments, numerous working hours and hard work. So let true winemakers tell what they like to bring out through their wines, what are their philosophies and contributions to wineworld and how does their wines taste. Unforgettable, memorable and feminine. Ergo.

Vicarage Lane Pinot Noir in true to the orgins, ig. it is light redwine with very complex taste and aromas. Pinot Noir is an amazing grape variety that is absolutely worth getting familiar with! At the same time it can be the most challenging grape variety. It requires more work in the vineyard and it is a kind of touchstone for a winemaker too. It is said that you can't call yourself a proper winemaker before you know how to make a respectable Pinot Noir. I can already tell you that in the near future our 2019 Pinot Noir will be the best we have produced so far.

Marta Casas and Mª Elena Jiménez, winemakers and owners in Parés Baltà, Vilafranca, Katalonia, Spain.
Mas Elena. The essence of the three typical varieties, with the well rippened fruit and the estructure of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and a little bit of Cab Franc. A blend of three terroirs in Penedès area, that give a good balance of roundness, high complexity, and bring an intense red wine with a soft touch of toasty notes, from the 8 months aged in barrels.
Marta de Balta. A real expression of the Syrah in a calcare soil, developing in a deep violet colour, with the concentration of fruit, spicy notes combined with a chocolate and silky palate. This wine is fermented in opened barrels and all the proces of vinification is done by hand.
Both transmit different kind of sensations, because they have special characters and transmit something about its terroir and way of vinification. Discover and enjoy a lot each of them and observe that all Pares Balta wines are cultivated by organic and biodynamic way.

Nea Berglund, winemaker, owner in Chateau Carsin, Rions, Bordeaux, France.
L'Aventure Nocturne is made from one of our best Merlot parcels, so it's a pure Merlot. This was the first wine that I made "on my own", but it has turned out to be one of the most succesful ones. The extraction is done by hand (pigeage) during alcoholic fermentation, the wine ferments in open vats (stainless steel). Malolactic fermentation takes place in barrels and the wine is racked only once a year. The wine matures in old oak barrels (+ 5 years) for about 12 to 18 months. The wine is bottled without fining or filtering, only a little bit of sulfur is added to make sure it keeps well. L'Aventure Nocturne has ripe fruit character with some earthy and spicy aromas. Great to combine with good dinners and long nights. The label is designed by Jenna Kunnas and it shows the biodiversity of the organic parcel where the wine comes from, and the magical adventure that takes place during the night.
