Minced meat sauce with mashed potatoes
is classic Finnish home cooking. Nothing fancy, no complicated techniques - just
good ingredients and a warm plate of food that hits the spot. Every cook has
their own twist. Some add garlic, others paprika, maybe a splash of cream or
soy sauce. That’s the beauty of it: the basics stay the same, but the flavor is
yours to play with.
Easy Minced
Meat Sauce:
300 g ground meat
1 onion
butter for frying
2 tbsp flour
200 ml water
salt & black pepper
How to make it:
Chop the onion.
Melt butter in a pan and sauté the
onion until soft.
Add ground meat and brown it.
Sprinkle in flour, mix well, then
add a bit of water.
Season and let simmer about 10
minutes!
Creamy Mashed Potatoes:
10–12 floury potatoes
salt
100 ml milk
butter
Steps:
Peel and boil potatoes in salted water
until soft.
Drain and mash.
Add milk and butter while mashing.
Taste, adjust salt, and keep warm.
Don’t overmix, or the mash gets
gluey.
